Usually working on one "Brickwall"
is difficult enough, but Becci at bhaines@tje1.com
has sent in the following:
"I have two
brick walls --
One is the location of my
Great Uncle John Edward "Ed" Hartsock's grave.
He was born in 1896, lived
in Oldtown, Allegany Co. Md., and was once married to Goldie
Twigg,
of Oldtown.
Ed & Goldie had 3children
that I knew of:
Rosalee, Ray & an infant,
all dead & buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Oldtown.
He also had additional children
that were raised by a Tripplett family in Cumberland, MD.
The Trippletts were affiliated
with the Church of the Nazarene in Cumberland. I would love
to know if that side of
the family is still around!
Edward's father was Frank
D. Hartsock, his mother, Mizuria Isabell Kifer Hartsock,
Brother, Charles Washington
Hartsock,
Sisters; Henrietta &
Maggie.
Edward left Maryland and
the family lost track of him. Last that was heard, he was inor around
Bedford, Pa. Ed worked at
the old Bedford Hotel, which I heard closed 10 years ago. He
also worked for a Funeral Home in Bedford, doing Maintenance.
It was said that when he died, they took care of arrangements,
and also buried him, since none of his family knew what had become
of him....what a mystery!!!!!
I would love to know what
funeral home, then I could determine where he's buried!!!!
The Pa. State Police had
called my Grandpap (Ed's brother Charles) but he was old and
not well.
He didn't understand what
the police said, so this is where the mixup occurred....
Ed may have died in the
early 1960's. Anyone knowing anything about his gravesite,
or of his life, please contact me."
"My second brick in the wall
is Jarius Steckman.
He was my 3-Greatgrandfather.
Any information about him and his linage will be appreciated.
I know that Jarius had at
least one son, Giras Steckman.
Giras was listed in the
1850 census in Bedford County.
I also know there are some
Steckmans buried some where on Tussey Mt. on a John Blankley
Farm.
Does anyone know where that
is - and a Steckmans Crossing???
I figure all these Steckmans
are the same family, because most of them migrated to
Washington & Allegany
Counties in Md.
Giras Steckmans' son Espy Steckman
(my GGgrandfather) lived in Fulton Co., PA
Warfersburg(?) for awhile, then moved to the Hancock-Long Ridge
area, and then on
to Oldtown, Allegany Co. Md., where they are buried."
I would appreciate any information
that you might share with me about my two "brickwalls":
Edward Hartsock & Jarius Steckman.
Thank you Becci, for sending
your "Brickwalls". If anyone has information and /
or questions for Becci
on Ed Hartsock & Jarius
Steckman, please send it to Becci at: bhaines@tje1.com
