For those of you who have been pestering me for an update, here you go (GARY). There will be some minor changes to this page and My Biography page to start, until I get the hang of it, again. Then there will be some additions and deletions from the links page as I clean them up and maybe add some more. Then I will work on my diversions, genealogy and numismatic pages as I find the time over the next months. I know that this has been too long in coming but other things have occupied my time. As before, it will be under construction until I have all the idiosyncrasies of coding in HTML worked out. So please bear with me.}
With this site I am going to let you get to know a little about my families and I! Knock on the door of the house to see all my family names. To view some of the Genealogy of my grandson scroll down to the little guy writing the history and click there.
If you'd like to learn a little about my life thus far and see some pictures of the important people in my family, click on the turkey.
Before I go any farther, I'd like to explain why I created this site. I have been wanting to do this for a couple of years but I lacked the motivation to do so, If you read the above linked biography you saw that I have not talked to nor seen my 3 youngest children for 5 years. There were 2 events that provided this motivation. First, I received an email, in conjunction with my hobby of genealogy, in which the sender was listed as Ken Urwin. The first thing that passed through my mind was that it was my son, Kenny, finally being allowed to contact me. My heart jumped into my throat and I couldn't open that email fast enough but, unfortunately, it wasn't from him. The second event was this morning as I lay in bed listening to the radio a song came on that really made me sad. The song was "A Love Without End - Amen". It was written by Aaron Barker and performed by George Straight. Check out the lyrics by clicking on the devil and as you read the words and hear the song (in your mind, for now until I get the code done), remember the situation concerning my children, you will see why I had to create this site. It was to give them an easy means by which to contact me, if they choose to do so. I hope they do!
My favorite and most time-consuming hobby is genealogy, which is the tracing of your family history. I have been working on this project for nearly 20 years and I have databases of over 250,000 individuals with my main one being 137,000 people all related to my children through either my line or that of their mothers. I also helped, my fiance, Crystal get started on her family tree which is now over 20,000 linked individuals. A web site documenting the ancestors of my grandson Dillon Ray Urwin who was born Feb. 27, 2002 in Delaware, Ohio, which is on Rootsweb's Freepages, can be accessed by clicking on the little man above this paragraph. There are some thoughts about researching your family history as well as some "brickwalls" or "roadblocks" and other assorted info here. And, I have listed a few of the more useful genealogical links here. Very soon, I hope to be placing more information on my families at the freepages site as soon as I feel more comfortable with what I am doing.
My first love, however, is Canadian Numismatics, which, for those of you who don't know, is the collecting of Canadian coins. I began this hobby when I was 8 years old and have continued, with little breaks now and again, to the present day. Unfortunately, I cannot enjoy my hobby the way I once did, as I have to keep my collection at the bank in a safety deposit box. I get asked all the time "why Canadian"? When I first started my parents, grandparents and my younger brother Mike already had collections (or hoards) of American Coins and I really wanted to be a little different. So, I decided that I'd collect Canadian coins. But after a while, the reason became much more aesthetic. The Canadian decimal coinage is much more beautiful and interesting than the dull, boring pictures of dead presidents that we find on American coins. These links will provide you with plenty of information on different aspects of Canadian Numismatics. By clicking on the flag above you will go to a page where I talk more about this hobby.
A hobby that I did not mention in my biography is that I also collect Playboy magazines. Now, I see some of you out there rolling your eyes, but it is really not like what you are thinking. I am sure that this hobby began as a teenager's libido, however, it has grown into something more. From what started as a couple of magazines hidden under the mattress or in the ceiling tiles to what is now a nearly complete collection. The list shown in this spreadsheet, accessed by clicking on the bunny, shows which issues I own, which I need and which I need to replace as you can see it is quite an extensive collection. I have also created a comprehensive database on different aspects of the magazine, including details on contents and cover picture. I also have some links for those who may be interested in this hobby.
By clicking on the wizard, above, you will go to a page that has more info on each of the previously mentioned items as well as a few others that I have thought of. I called this page My Diversions - Past & Present. But this page and those linked to it are still under construction. Give it a few minutes to load, the background is rather large.

The last or first of my hobbies, depending on how you look at it, is this computer. I built this one, in Jan. of 2000 just prior to my moving to Michigan, in July. It is not the fastest or biggest or best, but it gets done what I ask it to. What do I do with it you ask? Well, all of the information about my other hobbies is here. I also keep in contact with many other people who share these hobbies. How do you contact me, you ask! Well, my email addresses are surwin@torchlake.com or wizard_105@hotmail.com. But please be warned, I do not check my hotmail address very much at all, basically this is my trash address. I also use several of the messenger services. For example, if you want to use AOL/Netscape Instant Messenger my buddy name is lostbuckeye58. If you like Yahoo Instant messenger just add lost_buckeye_58 to your friends list. To add my name to your contact list on MSN Messenger, simply use the hotmail address above. Please note that this name has an underscore between the d and the 1. I can also be found in the GenForum chat room as steve-mi or lost_buckeye. If it is your first time, here, you will need to create an account and also download the ichat plug-in, which is the recommended gateway to the chat room. You will rarely, if ever, find me in any other chat rooms.
